Great book for anyone who wishes to work in music
I have been doing live sound for over 6 years and when i was asked to do a training session i bought this book to aid me in teaching others. It helped a lot it provided clear and concise answers and how to's. I wish i had this book back when i was starting out it would have saved me a lot of time and headache's. Now i recommend this book to any who wishes to work in both recording and live music productions.

Good info
It has some interesting ideas I've put into practice and have shared with others. I enjoy the content in this book. There are interesting concepts I have not considered.

OK, but there is a much better option
This little hand-sized booklet is OK, and a good value for $7, but there is a much better option. My perspective is someone who bought a large mixer and needed to learn more about how to use it. I read through this book pretty quickly and it was somewhat helpful but I was still pretty lost and wasn't able to make any decisions. However, then I read Mixing Audio, Second Edition: Concepts, Practices and Tools by Roey Izhaki, specifically the chapter on "Mixing Consoles". At the end of the chapter, I understood far more than I had from "Basic Mixers" and pretty comprehensively knew how to setup my mixer (and that was one chapter!). So although this is a credible little book, I would only buy it if you were dirt broke and wanted to be informed, but not necessarily educated about mixing. Otherwise, I can't say enough good things about the Izhaki book and you should turn there instead.

This book was simple and to the point. Very helpful!
As a volunteer sound engineer at my church, this book covered all the common problems I have encountered many times. Great book.

Handy reference guide to making the most of your mixer's capabilities
This excellent little reference guide puts you right in touch with the basic details of setup and use to get you up and running quickly, no matter what brand of mixer you have and how complex it is. It fills in the gaps that are often unaddressed, or explained inadequately, by your mixer's user manual

A good little pocket book (it fits in the inside pocket of my jacket) on the subject of mixers. As a starter it's perfect. A glossary of technical terms is included at the back of the book, to help the total novice to understand what is being said. The book has been designed to be the first step into the field for those who know nothing. Hence this book is not for the expert, the professional, or the knowledgeable and experienced amateur . . . unless you have an extraordinarily bad memory.

Great resource but far too detailed. It's aimed more at the audio engineer student than someone like me who is interested in sound for film. The book starts out great but then goes into the very complex world of top end style mixers out of the price range of ordinary folk and only available to the advanced audio engineer who probably doesn't need a book like this anyhow.

I've bought this book now for the second time having lost the paper-version a few years ago. It's a useful guide to the various bits of a mixing desk and how they work. It's particularly useful when sitting either with the desk in front of you or with the manual from the desk alongside (which otherwise don't tend to give up much info on how to use the desk - just what the buttons and pots are called!) My only criticism of the book is that it is largely studio focussed so if live-sound is your interest then you'll need to think a little bit more about how to make it most relevant. I've done just that as I am using a desk in a church setting for a band and it has been really beneficial when introducing new people to the desk and also as a refresher for myself.
