Kim Wilde Catch As Catch Can UK CD album Review: Can you hear it? - Kim Wilde's best album ever. All songs are so good, I can't stop listening to this CD once I start playing it. You wouldn't find as good songs as "Can you hear it?" and "Shoot To Disable" anywhere else. If you would buy only one Kim Wilde CD, that's the one to own. But I recommend all her first 5 albums for any Kim Wilde fan in this order 1- Catch as Catch can. 2- Teases and Dares (2cd). 3- Kim Wilde. 4- Select. 5- Another Step (2cd). Get those CDs and enjoy Kim Wilde's talent - the 80s at it's best. Review: Kim catches you as quick as she can - 'Dream Sequence' is my favourite song on this album along with 'Dancing In The Dark' and 'House Of Salome'. I am puzzled as to why Catch As Catch Can never became a massive success when it was released in 1983 its a truly wonderful album with amazing bonus tracks and fabulous sound quality.

Catch this!
I just wanted to say that I am one of the people who was guilty of ignoring this album when it came out in 1983. I bought all of Kims singles from Kids in America through to Love is Holy, but for some reason when this album came out I didnt buy it. I dont think that the singles choices helped. Certainly 'Love Blonde' is was a catchy summer hit that sounds like it should have been a bigger hit than it was, but 'Dancing In The Dark' was well below par for Kim. However, having finally got around to buying this cd, twenty nine years after the event!!!, I can only say that ignoring it was my loss. This is a great selection of songs that get better with every listen. Now, I can understand the transition that Kim made from 1982s poppy 'Select' to 1984s darker 'Teases and Dares'. If you are fan of early Kim Wilde hits I would certainly recommend this cd to you which comes at a bargain price and with bonus tracks too - although for me there is a bit too much 'Love Blonde' and 'Dancing in the Dark' with 7 inch, 12 inch and instrumental versions of the latter.

Criminally overlooked!
After two hugely successful studio albums, and a string of hit singles, young Kim Wilde took a very brave move with her third LP, by changing her musical direction rather dramatically, with the strongly synthesized 'Catch As Catch Can'. Although it completely bombed in the UK, and didn't do a great deal in many other countries either in 1983, it was an artistic triumph for Kim, a whole lot of fun, and one of my personal favourites in her wide repertoire of work. The exciting opener 'House of Salome' kicks things off with a powerful punch, as well as one very addictive chorus. After this, there are gems galore to be found, including the funky 'Back Street Joe', and the haunting 'Stay While', a yearning ballad which would have made the perfect soundtrack to any cult Eighties teen movie. Those three songs, along with later highlights 'Can You Hear It', which is another lovely ballad about a love which has passed, and the beautiful finale, 'Sing it Out For Love' (listen carefully, and decide whether or not you think it sounds rather similar to the The Pretenders' hit 'Back in the Chain Gang', which came a year later), are worth investing in this album alone. There are two hit singles on here as well, and although the swinging 'Love Blonde, which peaked at no.23, and catchy 'Dancing in the Dark' just aren't on the same level as her earlier singles (and not even on par with the outstanding album-only cuts!), their still jewels in this great artist's crown. 'Catch As Catch Can' was to be Kim's final studio album on her first record label RAK, because Mickie Most, the hit making producer who owned the label, decided not to renew her contract. Undeterred, her next releases thereafter would be with the major label MCA, but this really was great way to end her first fruitful period as a pop singer. She was never just your average girl vocalist, and with the help of her famous father Marty, and younger brother Ricky, who truly excelled in their song writing efforts for her here, had become an intentional star virtually overnight. Many female singing sensations tried to change their style, and when their new sound which was featured on albums which weren't commercial successes, they simply disappeared (namely Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, both of whom came after Kim), but thankfully, this was not the case with this one, who would go onto score hit after hit well into the mid nineties, over ten years after 'Catch As Catch Can' failed to leave it's mark. I simply adore this album, I really do, and it should never have gone so overlooked. Thankfully, the good people at Cherry Pop plucked it out from obscurity in 2009 with their remastered CD edition. Not only does it now benefit from crystal clear sound quality, there are five bonus tracks added on the end, including the B side only 'Back Street Driver', and the 7'' and 12'' versions of 'Love Blonde'.
