Python: The Complete Reference [Brown, Martin C.] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Python: The Complete Reference Review: Good book - Book was in great shape - as advertised. Quick delivery too. Review: Outdated - This book hasn't been updated since 2001. I would not have purchased it if I had realized it was so out of date. Python 3 differs enough from Python 2 as to make this book quite useless except as a reference for someone trying to understand a legacy Python 2 codebase. I knew I'd made a mistake buying this book as soon as I saw it mentioning Sun Solaris as if it that was still a relevant thing.

Outdated
This book hasn't been updated since 2001. I would not have purchased it if I had realized it was so out of date. Complete but hard to handle
Liked contents but could be smaller. It’s not practical to handle.

Nothing special, just a reference
As the title implies, this book is just a reference (covering up to python version 2.0.) The text is understable and provides a central repository of the same material you can get from the official documentation in the web (python.org) The first 140 pages are a tutorial covering the essencials of the language with several samples (these are too trivial in my opinion) following with about 240 pages describing the Python module library (again, the examples are trivial.) There are also some chapters related with the "internals" of Python, but no one is really "deep". Resuming, sadly I think this book (as many in these times) can be easily substituted with the web with little effort.

A terrific book that is out of date.
I have mixed feelings on this one. This book is fantastic in terms of writing, information, and organization. It would be an essential Python reference. The only problem is that it really is from 2001...it's 16 years old! I've tried a few of the code examples and none of them worked. Apparently Python's syntax has changed enough to invalidate at least some of the information in this book. As someone who's new to Python, I have no idea what I can trust in this book and what I can't. This book is in severe need of an update. Buyer be warned.

Sadly out of date with the release of Python 3.x, but still valid as python 2.x is still in use and python 3.x is mostly the same all in all a great reference

Good book. It's covered so many concepts but not in deep. I expected that it might have all the concepts explained in very comprehensive manner but it's explained briefly. In my opinion: -- Beginners can use this book to know what are the concepts should learn and how to start with.. -- Experts can use this book to recall the concepts in less time -- I cannot tell how professionals can use this book because professionals requires comprehensive explanations and more real time examples to expand their knowledge (I have read first 6 chapters and i couldn't find them).
